Computer Forensics
Computer forensics is the collection, preservation, analysis, presentation, and documentation of electronic data.

  • Collection – data collection must be done in a manner that ensures data integrity.
  • Preservation – After collection and prior to and during analysis, all data must be preserved. Regardless of the type of case, a Chain of Custody record must be maintained for every item.
  • Analysis – data analysis should adhere to industry recognized standards and procedures. Analysis should be conducted by a qualified practitioner in an objective and unbiased manner. Practitioners are finders of fact.
  • Presentation – Data that is collected and analyzed may be introduced in a court of law or during an administrative proceeding. Data collection and preservation methods, analysis findings, and findings should be documented and presented in such a way that is understood by non-technical people.
  • Documentation – All data collection, preservation, analysis methods, findings, and notes should be accurately documented. In some cases, peer review or a second practitioner may be called upon to review all work related to a case. As such, it is important to maintain accurate records and notes.

Our experts have extensive experience in conducting computer forensic investigations. We understand data preservation and Chain-of-Custody issues. Our methods and procedures are recognized and accepted in the industry. We also help by explaining complex technical terms and concepts encountered in computer forensic investigations.

Data Recovery
Hardware malfunctions, software issues such as deleted or corrupt files, an unbootable computer, virus attacks, user error, deleted or missing partitions, can all be causes for data loss. Our team can help by recovering your lost files. Depending on the type of issue, our team can recover over 90% of lost data and in many cases 100%.

Data Preservation
In today’s tenuous marketplace and economy, businesses are forced to reduce their workforces. In the business world, this reduction in workforce is known as downsizing. At DDI, we see it as potential risk. The vast majority of companies provide computers to their employees. Once an employee has been “reduced”, their data should be properly preserved in the event it may be needed in the future. Most often, the computer assigned to the former employee is placed back into use thus permanently altering and destroying previous information.

DDI can help by forensically backing up all data on a former employee’s computer(s) ensuring that it is available for future use if needed.

Expert Witness and Case Review
Our team can help by providing an objective review of existing computer forensic cases to ensure that proper procedures were followed. This can be invaluable when preparing for trial or an administrative action. In addition, our team can provide expert witness testimony related to computer forensics.

Policy Review – “Gap Analysis”
Are your Corporate Polices current? Does your company have an acceptable use policy that clearly defines what is acceptable on company owned assets such as a computer or network? Are your employees aware of any policies? How does your company deal with privacy issues? These are some of the issues facing corporations today. We can help by reviewing existing policies and procedures to help identify any gaps and provide recommendations to help minimize risk.

Training
We can customize a training program for your in-house team that is current, relevant, and cost effective.
